Judith Ann Jennings, a resident of New Canaan and Bonita Springs, FL, died peacefully at home on the evening of Tuesday, June 11.

Judy and her loving husband of almost 50 years, William Christopher Jennings, lived in New Canaan for 35 years. Judy was born in Belmont, OH on April 13, 1941, and she graduated with high honors from the University of Akron. Her parents were the late Paul and Martha Williams.

In 1958, Judy met the love of her life, Bill, and married him five years later. Bill’s career brought them East. They lived 15 years in New Jersey before landing in New Canaan in 1978. Judy devoted her life initially to teaching high school, and then to raising her family, supporting her husband’s career and volunteering in the community.

Judy volunteered and held leadership roles in many local organizations, including the Garden Center of New Canaan (now the New Canaan Beautification League), the New Canaan Sewing Group, the Parent Faculty Association of New Canaan High School, the Junior League of Stamford/Norwalk, West School PTC, and the Newcomer’s Club. An accomplished golfer, Judy served as the chair of the golf committee at The Country Club of New Canaan and was an active member of The Stanwich Club in Greenwich. She was also a proud member of the Women’s Westchester and Fairfield County Golf Association.

Judy had a passion for travel – she enjoyed reading about other countries and planning trips. Judy and her husband traveled the world with their family and later with a group of close friends. The couple also divided their time between New Canaan and their home in Bonita Springs, FL.

In addition to travel and golf, Judy enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, playing bridge, needlepoint and spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved dogs.

Many describe Judy as their “make it happen” friend. Whether she was planning a trip, playing golf, entertaining, decorating or gardening, she always went the extra mile to make it perfect.

Judy is survived by her beloved husband, Bill; their son, W. Bryan Jennings and his wife Lee M. Jennings of Darien, CT; their daughter, Martha A. Jennings of Wayne, PA; and their daughter Suzanne J. Harrison and her husband John W. Harrison of New Canaan. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Ella and Will Jennings and Jack, Chris and Eddie Harrison.

A Funeral Service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, June 22 at 11:00AM with a reception following at The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, CT.

Contributions in Judy’s memory may be made to The Judith A. Jennings Fund and sent to The University of Akron Foundation, Akron, OH 44325-2603. The Jennings family has established this fund to memorialize Judy’s name by providing merit scholarships for future teachers. For online condolences and directions visit www.hoytfuneralhome.com
