Roger D. Carman, 63; New Canaan Transfer Station Operator

A memorial celebration of Mr. Carman's life is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13.


Roger D. Carman, beloved husband of Cheryl Bates Carman of Norwalk, passed away on May 10, 2014 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 63.

Roger was born on Nov. 14, 1950 and is the son of the late John & Florence Louden Carman.

He was employed as the Transfer Station Operator for the Town of New Canaan. Roger loved classic cars, woodworking, and landscaping. He used to drive stock cars at Dover, and his nickname at work was "The Best." 

Survivors in addition to his loving wife include two daughters; Lesley Bradshaw and her husband Phillip of Schenectady, NY; Johanna Maffei and her husband Thomas of Bethel; a step-daughter Kristi Mackin Galletti and her husband Dominick of West Hartford; a step-son Richard Mackin and his companion Heather Fulton of Portland, OR; his mother-in-law Marion Bates of Norwalk, two brothers, Robert Carman of Southbury and Donald Carman of Danbury; a brother-in-law Garry Bates and his wife Joyce of New Milford; three & a half grandchildren, Kaylee Maffei (and an expected sibling for Kaylee), Zara & Avery Galletti; a niece and several nephews. 

Friends are invited to attend a memorial celebration of Roger’s life on Tuesday May 13, from 3:30 to 6:30 PM in Norwalk’s Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
