Services for Lt. Wood to Be Held Friday

The 32-year veteran of NCPD died Sunday, after a three year struggle with cancer.

Lt. Stephen W. Wood, who served the town as a member of the for 32 years, died May 22 at his home in Vista, NY. He was 60 years old.

“It is with much sorrow that the New Canaan Police Department announces the death of recently retired Lt. Stephen Wood after a with pancreatic cancer,” Sgt. Carol Ogrinc wrote in an NCPD release.

Wood was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a graduate of the 176th session of the FBI National Academy, Ogrinc said. He joined the New Canaan Police Department on April 1, 1977 and retired on June 30, 2009. Wood was NCPD’s first K-9 handler, serving with his partner “Ex” for nine years.

Wood is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pat, two daughters, Kimberly and Kelly and four grandsons.
