I am supporting Paul Giusti for First Selectman. I reached this decision after reviewing the backgrounds of the two candidates and their accomplishments in town hall roles, and watching the debates. I also took note of the fact that current first selectman, Jeb Walker, supports Paul and not Rob Mallozzi, despite having served alongside Rob on the board of selectman for the past four years. All but one Republican on the town council and board of finance (12 out of 13) have endorsed Paul as well.
To show my support, last week I placed two signs on my front lawn. Within hours someone drove on to the lawn and flattened one of the signs. The other was stolen after three days. On the streets around town that I drive regularly, including Ponus Ridge, Weed and South Avenue I have seen Giusti signs go up and disappear within days. On Saturday I did not see a Giusti sign the whole length of Ponus Ridge; a number have been placed by residents over the past couple of weeks but none remain. On the same streets this does not seem to happen to Mazzolli signs, they stay in place.
I am not suggesting that Rob Mallozzi is behind the disappearance of Giusti signs (and bumper stickers), however, I call on Rob to ask his supporters, via a notice on his website and personal appeals, not to steal signs placed by supporters of his opponent. This is New Canaan. Let’s have a fair contest!
