$1,000 Worth of Mucinex Stolen from New Canaan Drug Store

A CVS employee notified their manager, who then notified police on Election Day last week, that someone had stolen 49 boxes of Mucinex cold & flu medication—a theft valued at more than $1,000.

On Tuesday, Nov. 6, police were notified of a theft at the 94 Park Street drug store that occurred at some point between 6:20 p.m. And 7 p.m., said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc.

After a female employee notified a manager that she observed a man stealing, the manager visited the area as advised by the employee but found the suspect had already fled the location.

Upon viewing a security video, Ogrinc said it was evident a man enters the store with a bag in hand and begins throwing Mucinex boxes of various medicinal strengths and pill counts into the bag until he's cleared off the shelf. In total, $1,024 worth of the product was stolen.

The suspect was described as a light-skinned black male, standing approximately 6' 2", wearing a black and gray winter hat, dark pants and dark long-sleeved shirt and a tan vest with a floral pattern.

The case remains under investigation, but it is the second time in recent months that a suspect has entered a drug store and stolen a large quantity of a single product.

On Sept. 3 at approximately 5 p.m., someone entered the Walgreens at 36 Pine Street and made off with 32 boxes of Prilosec OTC, valued at roughly $620.
