Roger E. Stanley, 47, was arrested by New Canaan police as he was being released from the Westchester County Jail on June 13. A warrant had been issued for Stanley’s arrest, following a Feb. 2010 attempted burglary on Hillcrest Road. At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Feb. 16 last year, a 47-year-old homeowner had gone to check on the Hillcrest Road property, which was vacant at the time. The homeowner noticed an unfamiliar vehicle in the driveway, realized motion-activated lights were not working and saw a man, who turned out to be Stanley, come from the direction of a neighbor’s house. When the homeowner asked Stanley what he was doing at the property, Stanley said he was doing some work on the neighbor’s house. Stanley got into his vehicle and left the property. Upon investigation, the homeowner and police discovered pry marks on a side door and a back window on a deck, and found that the power box had been turned off. There were footprints in the snow around the vacant house as well as the house next door.

Following an investigation, police identified Stanley as a suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest on March 2, 2010. On June 9, 2011, NY police notified New Canaan police of Stanley’s imminent release from prison there. On June 13, New Canaan police took Stanley into custody. He was charged with 3rd degree attempted burglary and 2nd degree criminal mischief. Stanley was unable to post $50,000 bond.
