$9,750 in Guns Stolen From New Canaan Man

A Norwalk man was given a misdemeanor for drinking beer while driving.

Police are investigating $62,300 worth of belongings stolen from a New Canaan man in midst of his move, police said. 

The 65-year-old man was in the process of moving from New Canaan to New York when he decided to move to Norwalk instead. He used a moving company to help him and when his belongings arrived in Norwalk from the New York storage facility, he discovered several items missing, said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc. 

On May 23 the notified police of the incident and said he as concerned that $9,750 of the $62,300 missing consisted of fire arms, said Ogrinc.

A Sauer shot gun ($2,000), a Winchester rifle ($750) another Winchester rifle ($4,500) and a Mannlicher Schoenauer with a scope ($2,500) are among the missing items, police said. 

The man is currently sorting out reimbursement with the Connecticut/New York based moving company, said Ogrinc.

Police are investigating the theft of $3,000 worth of copper wire from the CL&P at the corner of Lakeview Avenue, police said. 

A CL&P employee notified New Canaan police on May 21 at 7:22 a.m. that a large hold had been cut in the fence (on the New Norwalk Road side) and that old copper wire in shipping containers had gonne missing, said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc. 

The lock for the shipping containers was missing entirely and the last time the copper was seen was at 5 p.m. on May 18, police said.

Police are investigating the fraudulent use of a Heritage Hill Road resident's credit cards, police said. 

The 70-year-old female reported to police on May 23 that her credit car company informed her that one of her Visa cards charged $800 worth of merchandise at Kmart and Walmart type stores in Virginia, police said. 

Another small charge described only as being on Google was made to her LLBean Visa card, police said.

A New Canaan man ended up with a misdemeanor for allegedly drinking beer while driving, police said. 

An officer pulled over Freddie Parker, 62, of Norwalk on New Norwalk Road near Locust Avenue after the officer found Parker's vehicle to have an expired registration, said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc. 

The officer reported seeing the top of a red and white can sticking out of a brown bag in the car. Parker allegedly told the officer he'd been drinking the beer, which was half empty and ice-cold, police said. 

Parker was charged with drinking alcohol while operating a vehicle and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. He was released on a promise to appear in court on June 5, said Ogrinc.
