Accident Out Front of New Canaan's Saxe Results in Both Drivers Charged

An accident out front of Saxe Middle School on Dec. 20 resulted in the two operating parties being charged, New Canaan police said this week.

According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, two vehicles traveling in opposite directions along Farm Road in the East-West directions both attempted to maneuver through a light that had turned yellow by accelerating, one going straight and the other turning across traffic to head south.

Michael McMahon, 54, of 16 Charles Place, was driving a Saab station wagon. He was issued a misdemeanor summons for driving with a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle under suspension, misuse of marker plates as the license plates did not belong to the vehicle, failure to obey a traffic control signal, driving without insurance and failure to return his license to the DMV after it was suspended. McMahon has a scheduled court date on January 2, 2014. A passenger in McMahon's vehicle complained of neck pain at the scene but was not transported to the hospital.

Michael Paladino, 18, of 62 Harrison Avenue, was operating a Jeep station wagon and charged with failure to obey a traffic control signal.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
