Accident Report: Morning Fender Benders; Rollover on Weed Street

Police logged 11 accidents in the past week.

Monday Morning Fender-Bender:

A 53-year-old woman from Stamford rear-ended the vehicle in front of her when the traffic light at the intersection of Old Stamford Road and Bank Street turned green around 7:30 a.m. May 3. Though she said the other vehicle stopped again after the traffic had begun to move, the 47-year old Stamford man driving that vehicle said he had not yet started to proceed through the light when he was hit.

Backing Error in Saxe Lot:

A 23-year-old woman from Weatogue struck a vehicle stopped behind her, causing minor damage, as she was attempting to back out of space in the lot at the rear of Saxe Middle School at 2:09 p.m. May 4. She was given a verbal warning for unsafe backing.

Condo Resident's Vehicle Struck at Home: 

A resident of the Heritage Hill condos reported to police on May 5 that someone had hit their car while it was parked in its designated spot, damaged the left side from the front fender to the rear quarter panel. The vehicle owner had parked the car around 7:30 p.m. the previous evening and noticed it around 1:40 p.m. on the 5th. Based on the damage, it looks as though a light-colored SUV or truck is the culprit.

Man Crashes Backing Out of His Own Driveway:

Police gave a verbal warning for unsafe backing to a 53-year-old New Canaan man after he struck and caused minor damage to a parked vehicle while he was backing out of his driveway shortly before 11 p.m. May 6.
 
Chain Reaction in Friday Morning Rush:

A 23-year-old woman from Stamford was faulted with causing a three-car accident at the intersection of Old Stamford Road and Talmadge Hill at 8:48 a.m. May 7. Two vehicles were stopped ahead of her at the light, but she failed to stop in time, rear-ending the second car in the line and pushing it into the first. Police issued her an infraction for following too closely.

Driver Parks on Elm After Hitting Vehicle on South:

Shortly before 9 a.m. May 8, a reported seeing a driver hit another vehicle that was parked legally in front of the Canaan Parish Sweet Shoppe while attempting to park on South Avenue and then continue onto Elm Street where she parked in a diagonal spot. Using the information from the witness, police identified the offending driver as a 56-year-old woman from CosCob. Enforcement action is pending.

Distracted Teen Driver Strikes Pole: 

A 16-year-old from New Canaan drove his car into a pole just east of Welles Lane on Frogtown Road at 9:26 a.m. May 8. The accident occurred when, as he was driving around a curve, he was distracted by some buckets that fell over in the backseat of his vehicle. Police issued the teenager a written warning for failure to drive in the established lane.

Coca Cola Truck an Innocent Victim:

A 51-year-old man from Stamford backed into a parked Coca Cola delivery truck at 2:28 p.m. May 8 as he was attempting to back out of a spot in the Walter Stewart's Market lot. Police issued the driver a verbal warning for unsafe backing.

Guilty Driver Didn't Leave a Note:

A vehicle owner reported to police at 5:24 p.m. May 9 that another vehicle had struck theirs, damaging the right front bumper, while it was parked legally on Locust Avenue. 

Downtown Fender-Bender:

Police issued a verbal warning to a 45-year-old Wilton man for following too closely after he struck the vehicle stopped ahead of him on Cherry Street at the intersection with Park Street at 8:51 a.m. May 4. He claimed that the vehicle ahead of him had started to go when the light turned green, but then stopped again, and he couldn't stop in time. The 44-year-old New Canaan woman he hit said she had not yet started moving through the light. She suffered a very minor injury, but refused treatment.

Driver Suffers Only Minor Injuries in Rollover Accident:

A 50-year-old woman driving northbound on Weed Street near Ash Tree Lane veered off the road and clipped a tree, causing the vehicle to flip on its side and land in the middle of the road around 3:30 p.m. May 5. A witness that had been driving behind her stopped and helped the driver out of the vehicle after the airbag deployed. She was transported to Norwalk Hospital with minor abrasions and was given a verbal warning for failure to drive right.
