Bicycle Thieves Strike Again in New Canaan

Keep those bikes locked or stored. A third bicycle theft was reported to police in the last two weeks.

Police are investigating the theft of a bicycle from outside the New Canaan Library on June 8, police said.

A 49-year-old woman reported to police that her son left his bike unlocked in front of the library at 11 a.m. and that it was gone when he returned at 2 p.m., said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc.

A group of teens left four bikes and two skate boards in front of the home of the complainant, a 14-year-old boy, on West Hills Road before going to a friend's home on West Road, police said.

The complainant reported to police that two bikes were missing when they returned at 11:30 p.m. -  one bike valued at $500 and another at $2,000, said Ogrinc.

The complainant's mother reported to police that the bikes had been recovered, however, when a neighbor spotted two white, male teens dropping the bikes off at a construction site before driving away from the scene in a green, four-door Jeep, said Ogrinc.

These incidents come after a May 27 incident in which an 8-year-old boy's BMX bike was stolen from his home on Millport Ave., said Ogrinc.

The bike, worth approximately $100, was last seen at 6:40 p.m. on May 26 in front of the boy's front door, but was gone when the family returned home just after midnight on May 27, police said.

If you think you've seen any of the missing bikes, please contact Sgt. Carol Ogrinc of the Youth Division at (203) 594-3523.
