Bondsman Arrest New Canaan Chimney Scam Suspect after Missed Court Date

One of three men arrested in a chimney sweeping scheme in January of this year was brought to the New Canaan Police Department by two bail bondsmen after they picked up the suspect on a felony Failure to Appear violation.

According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, on Wednesday, October 16, at approximately 7:04 p.m., two bail bondsmen brought to the station Frederick Dapice III, 41, of 14 Laurel Road in Lindenhurst, NY. Dapice was wanted on a warrant service for failing to appear in court on October 1 on charges stemming from the January incident.

On January 24, 2013, Dapice was arrested with Paul Scalia, 35, of 217 Vernon Valley Road, East Northport, NY, and Robert Houlahan, 45, of 700 Nicholls Road, Deer Park, NY, and charged with second-degree larceny, illegal sale without a tax permit, home improvement without a certificate or registration, working without a building permit, impersonating a licensed contractor and "notices and sales agreement."

The trio was alleged to have attempted to charge an elderly Mariomi Road resident $3,200 for cleaning and repairs to a chimney, work they were not legally authorized to do, Ogrinc said.

Dapice was held on a $35,000 bond, which he did not post, and was processed and brought to Norwalk court the morning of October 17.
