Two Boys Accused of Smashing Mailboxes, One of Marijuana Possession

The mailbox incident was reported on Sept. 2, according to police.

Two boys, one of whom was issued an infraction for possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana, are under investigation for the vandalism of ten mailboxes on River Street, said Sgt. Ogrinc of the New Canaan Police Department.

A 22-year-old woman reported to police on Sept. 2 hearing noises outside then finding her mailbox, along with other neighbors' mailboxes, smashed, police said.

After being given a clothing description of two youths spotted by witnesses, a patrolling officer saw two boys matching the descriptions, according to Ogrinc.

While one boy ran away, the officer did confront the other boy at Locust Avenue and Summer Street, and the boy claimed he was not involved in the vandalism of the mailboxes. The officer noticed a bag of marijuana in the grass close to where the boy was standing. The boy denied that the marijuana, which looked like it had not been there for very long, belonged to him, said Ogrinc.

The boy was still issued an infraction for possession of the marijuana and the vandalism of the mailboxes is still under investigation, police said.
