Cash, Cellphone Stolen from New Canaan Diner

A Norwalk woman had her purse stolen from the New Canaan Diner after leaving it hanging on the coat rack in the diner, police said this week.

According to Sgt. Carol Orginc, the the 39-year-old complainant discovered the larceny at approximately 1:30 p.m. on June 9. She told police she placed it on the rack at around 12:30 p.m. Several employees helped searched for the purse and found it in the diner restroom, sans a wallet containing $100 in cash and a HTC Metro PCS cellphone valued at $110.

Ogrinc said at approximately 4:30 p.m. later that same day, the wallet was found in the area of the East Avenue Chase Bank by a passerby. The money was missing from the wallet.

The wallet was found near the drive-up ATM of the bank. as part of the investigation, police are working on obtaining surveillance footage from the bank.
