Co-owner of Former Tuscan Restaurant Arrested

Marc D. Minella, co-owner of the now-shuttered Tuscan Restaurant, was charged by New Canaan police July 10 with failing to appear in court on a charge of issuing a bad check.

Minella, 35, a resident of Hollow Tree Ridge Road in Darien, was pulled over by a Darien police officer as Minella was driving on that road.

Darien police said that at 8:38 a.m., July 10, a police officer saw he was driving with a brake light that wasn't working. Soon the police officer who stopped Minella found there were two warrants for his arrest, one of them on a charge he did not appear in court.

That charge was from New Canaan police, who said Minella failed to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk on a March 19 charge of issuing a bad check for more than $1,000. Minella was accused of issuing the check on Dec. 26, 2012. On May 16, he failed to appear in court in Norwalk, according to officials.

Darien police handed Minella over to New Canaan police, who released him on a $5,000 bond. But Minella's problems didn't end there.

He was also wanted by West Haven police, who have charged him with two counts of issuing a bad check -- one for $250 to $500 (said to have been committed on Dec. 26, 2012, according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website) and another bad check for under $250 (a crime said to have been committed on Jan. 4). West Haven police also charged him with fifth-degree larceny (said to have been committed on Jan. 4).

West Haven police took Minella into custody at the New Canaan police station. Minella is scheduled to appear Friday in state Superior Court in Norwalk for the local charges and on Tuesday, July 23, in state Superior Court in Milford for the West Haven charges.
