Copper Piping Stolen from CL&P Substation

An employee of the CL&P substation on New Norwalk Road and Lakeview Avenue reported that an unknown amount of copper piping was stolen from the facility, police said.

According to Ogrinc, the suspect used the access panel to enter the front gate premises sometime between March 8 at 5 p.m. and March 10 at 11:30 a.m. and broke the lock to a storage container where the piping was kept. Police said that the suspect then cut the fence with a bolt cutter to escape.

Ogrinc added that at least 500 former and current employees might have had access to the front gate of the facility.

A 56-year-old resident reported that someone broke into his home on Avalon Drive East on March 5 and stole some electronics from his living room, police said.

According to public information officer Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, the suspect entered the home between 3:15 p.m. and 10:10 p.m. by forced entry through a sliding glass door in the rear. The resident reported that a 36-inch Vizio LED/LCD flat screen TV, an Xbox 360, an iMac computer, a DVD player and a metal box containing an unknown amount of cash were stolen. The total value of the items take has not been determined.

Nick Angione, Jr., 39, of Norwood, NJ, was arrested and charged on March 6 for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, police said.

According to Ogrinc, an officer was operating a radar unit on Old Stamford Road when he noticed a vehicle traveling north at a fast rate of speed. The officer stopped the vehicle, approached Angione and smelled alcohol. Ogrinc also said that the suspect’s eyes were "glassy and red" and he failed the sobriety test.

On March 8, an officer on patrol noticed graffiti written on the ground on White Oak Shade Road, police said.

According to Ogrinc, the graffiti was written with light blue spray paint, appeared in three separate areas close together and spelled out "kesaquea."

Timothy R. Fox, 19, of Wahackme Road, New Canaan, was issued an infraction for marijuana possession on March 9 after a resident of Sunset Hill Road reported a suspicious vehicle parked on the street, police said.

According to Ogrinc, after the call was made, officers pulled up near the car and saw at least two of the occupants running into a wooded area. When the officer went to the vehicle's window, they saw a small amount of marijuana on the center console. They also found rolling paper, a grinding box and pipe. Fox, who was the operator of the vehicle, told the officers that the marijuana belonged to his friends.

Fox was charged with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating an unregistered vehicle.
