Cops: Alleged New Canaan Shoplifter Couldn't Apologize Out of Getting Caught

An apology didn't get an alleged shoplifter off the hook this past weekend when a woman was caught by a store manager placing goods in her personal bag, police said.

According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, a manager at the Walgreens located at 36 Pine Street reportedly witnessed a woman walking around the store placing items like toiletries and other "small value items" in her bag.

When the manager confronted the woman, identified by police as Librea Scott, 38, of Summer Street, as she attempted to walk past the cash register area, the suspect allegedly apologized and placed the 16 items, valued at $72.89, on the counter before leaving.

A customer called police at that point, Ogrinc said, and followed Scott until they arrived on scene. She was arrested at Park Street. Police contacted the store, who said they wished to press charges.

Scott was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on a Promise To Appear. She is scheduled to appear in court August 9.
