Cops: Man Kicks Open Door, Threatens Brother-in-Law

This allegation -- full of drama and noise -- sounds closer to opera than the usual police report.

Not only did a man kick down the locked outside door at his sister's house on Summer Street, he then screamed threats at his brother-in-law while a child witnessed the scene, New Canaan police said.

Police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the matter:

A family dispute between a brother and sister (both adults and not living together)  took a violent turn when the brother visited the sister's house on Summer Street shortly before 8 p.m. on Monday.

Jason Kempf, 37, of Forest Street, went to his sister's house to confront her about the subject of the dispute. She refused to open the outside door.

He then kicked it in.

His sister's husband, who had been sleeping on the couch, became involved in the dispute, and Kempf, screaming, threatened to kill the man. A child was present and witnessed the confrontation.

When sirens could be heard approaching the home, Kempf left. Police later found him at his own home and arrested him.

Kempf was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree threatening and risk of injury to a minor. He was held on $30,000 bond, which he did not post, and was taken Tuesday morning to state Superior Court in Norwalk.
