Cops: Norwalk Woman Planned New Canaan Burglary

New Canaan police said they arrested a Norwalk woman last Monday after being told she was planning a burglary.

A Norwalk woman was planning to burglarize a New Canaan home, according to town police, so they arrested her Monday.

Here's a news release issued Saturday afternoon by New Canaan police (involving an accusation not proven in court) about the matter:

The New Canaan Police Department received information that an individual was planning to commit a burglary and larceny at a residence in New Canaan and that she was soliciting individuals to assist in committing these crimes.

Officers conducted an investigation and stopped the crimes before they occurred.

Subsequently, on Feb. 24, 2014, Marjorie C. Swanke was arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit larceny first degree and criminal attempt to commit burglary second degree.

Swanke did not post $250,000 bond and was transported to Norwalk Superior Court on Feb. 25. Swanke is presently incarcerated at the York Correctional Center in Niantic, CT.

Members of the New Canaan Police Department’s investigative section and patrol division led this investigation and executed the arrest.

The news release, emailed by New Canaan police, does not offer details on why the woman wanted to break into a particular home, whether she knew the occupants, whether she claimed the occupants had her property or owed her something, just who she approached for help or how police found out about the matter.
