Cops: Thief Tries to Steal $300,000 From New Canaan Woman's Bank Account

Police this week announced they are investigating an intercontinental attempt to steal $300,000 from a New Canaan woman.

According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, police received a complaint on Thursday, August 29, at approximately 9:36 p.m., from a Sleepy Hallow Road woman who was alerted by her bank that someone attempted to transfer $300,000 in fund to a bank in Korea.

The person attempting the transfer represented themselves as the victim via email and attempted to initiate the transfer from her bank account, for which they had the information, to a bank in Korea.

Someone at the bank spotted the questionable status of the transfer and alerted the proper account holder, Ogrinc said. Police continue to investigate.
