Diamond Ring Stolen, Red Bull Recovered

The following information was provided by the New Canaan Police Department.

Between May 16 and May 23 the police responded to 114 motor vehicle incidents 10 motor vehicle accidents, 28 medical assits, 23 alarms and 29 location checks.

DWI Accident on Valley Road

May 16, 6:29 p.m: Dylan P. Casinelli, 19, of Bank St., New Canaan was charged with unreasonable speed and operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and traveling too fast for conditions after police responded to a report of an accident on  Valley Road. When they arrived they discovered a 2001 Chevrolet Impala that had gone off the road and struck a tree. The officer detected the odor of alcohol coming from the operator, and reported he had glassy, bloodshot eyes. Sobriety tests were conducted, and Casinelli was taken to police headquarters. The car sustained heavy front end damage and was towed from the scene. Casinelli posted $260 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 26

Documents Taken from Vehicle

May 17, 2:04 p.m: A 58-year-old River St. resident reported that the vehicle registration and title were missing from her car’s glove box. The car had been parked in her driveway and was unlocked. The complainant told police she last saw the items on May 11, and noticed them missing on May 13. Nothing else was taken from the vehicle.

Zira Detects Narcotics

May 17, 5:47 p.m: Michael C. Santella, 19, of West Road, New Canaan, was charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, after the vehicle he was driving was pulled over for having excessively tinted windows and a blacked out rear license plate. A police officer spotted the vehicle heading south on Oenoke Ridge Road and stopped it on Old Stamford Road near Old Studio Road. K-9 Zira was on duty with the officer and was deployed to conduct an exterior check of the vehicle. She indicated there were drugs in the interior of the vehicle and the officer discovered a marijuana pipe and a small amount of marijuana in the center console. Santella received a summons at the scene and was released on a promise to appear. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 26.

Prescription Forgery

May 19, 12:13 p.m: An employee of Lang’s Pharmacy told police an individual attempted to pass a forged prescription for oxycontin at the Elm St. store. By time police arrived at the pharmacy, the individual had left the store. Lang's had been alerted that a similar incident took place at Grieb's Pharmacy in Darien.

Car Break In at Waveny

May 19, 4:25 p.m: Items were taken from a vehicle parked in the lot south of the Carriage Barn at Waveny Park. A 57-year-old New Canaan resident told police she parked her 2010 Lexus RX350 at 2:30 p.m., and when she returned at 4:20 p.m. the front passenger side window was shattered and a beige handbag with brown leather handles that was left on the passenger seat was missing. The handbag contained a red Longchamp wallet, valued at $50, which contained $500 cash as well as miscellaneous credit cards. Also missing was an LG cell phone, valued at $50, a pair of prescription glasses and a pair of sunglasses.

 Shoplifter at CVS

May 20, 1:41 p.m: A customer told a CVS employee she spotted a woman filling a knapsack with items from the store. The employee confronted the alleged shoplifter, and told her police had been alerted. The woman fled the store, leaving the knapsack behind. The woman was seen getting into a silver or tan SUV, occupied by a white male who police said was bald or partially bald. The woman was described as a white female, approximately 5’ 4”, with brown hair and brown eyes. The woman took a pair of legging stretch pants, valued at $20, but left behind a number of items in the bag, including a 10-pack of ankle socks, valued at $5.50, a 5-pack of hairbands, valued at $8.50, and five cans of Enfamil baby formula valued at $114.

Burglary on Nursery Road

May 20, 2:36 p.m: A 49-year-old Nursery Road resident returned home to find a window on her garage door had been smashed. When she entered the house she immediately noticed a laptop computer missing from the family room. She left the home, notified police and waited outside for them. Police determined the house was not occupied, and searched the premises with the homeowner. Three drawers containing various items of jewelry were missing from a nightstand in the master bedroom. The incident occurred between 9:30 a.m. when the woman left the home, and 2:30 p.m., when she returned. The Apple laptop is valued at $800. A list of other missing items was not complete at the time of this report.

Diamond Ring Taken

May 21, 2:41 p.m: A 50-year-old Soundview Lane resident reported a diamond ring with two baguettes missing from the master bedroom of her home. The ring, valued at $45,000, was last seen on May 17. On May 20 at 6 p.m., the owner noticed it was no longer there. Construction workers and delivery people have been at the home recently. Police are conducting an investigation.

 Red Bull Theft Foiled, Suspect Flees on Bicycle

May 21, 10:10 p.m: A 29-year-old employee of the Mobil station on South Ave., told police she had observed an individual on video placing something in his pocket. When he came to the counter to make a purchase, she reached into his pocket and removed the item — a $2.80 can of Red Bull — and told him she had called police. The suspect left the station, jumped on a bicycle and rode away.  Described as a white male with blond hair and a beard, he was wearing a white tee shirt with red shorts. He was last seen heading north on Main St.
