Original story: Much of Fairfield County experienced major flooding and hundreds of homes were without power late Sunday evening and into early Monday morning after heavy rain and winds hit southern Connecticut.

Old Stamford Road and Lapham Road were reported to be impassable due to flooding and live wires down on Talmadge Hill Road caused major traffic delays.

A tree was also reportedly draped across Route 106 just south of Talmadge Hill Road, which Metro-North reported caused delays to the service from New Canaan to Stamford, and another tree blocked the road at 141 Spring Water Lane.

Between 10:17 p.m. and 12:08 a.m., the number of CL&P customers in New Canaan without power went down from 45 to 12 out of 3,743 CL&P customers affected throughout Connecticut.

Haddam suffered the most outages with 14 percent of the town still without power as of 12:08 a.m.

As of 12:20 a.m., a New Canaan police dispatcher reported that Old Stamford Road near Talmadge Hill, Talmadge Hill and South Avenue, and Jelliff Mill Road near Spring Water Lane were barricaded and inaccessible to the public.

Police also reported that CL&P workers stated they would be finished working at Old Stamford Road near Talmadge Hill by approximately 1:30 a.m. The town will then be responsible for removing a downed tree, police said.

It is currently uncertain when the remaining roads will be cleared, police said.
