Downtown New Canaan Jewelry Store 'Forcibly Burglarized'

A jewelry store on Elm Street was forcibly burglarized Wednesday by four men who entered the store, one carrying a sledgehammer, and handgun, according to authorities.

Early descriptions form police broadcasts indicated four black males wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks and carrying handguns entered the Henry C. Reid & Sons Jewelers at 72 Elm Street downtown through the front plate glass window at approximately 4:05 p.m.

There were no injuries initially reported during the incident. The suspects fled on foot towards South Avenue and then down towards Elm Court, according to an emergency broadcast sent out to town residents.
