A 51-year-old Cross Ridge Road resident told police her e-mail account had been hacked and personal information was used to cheat one of her friends out of $2,400.

The woman reported the incident to police on the afternoon of Feb. 23. She said a personal e-mail account had been hacked and her password had been changed. The suspect then e-mailed a contact in the victim’s address book and, writing as the victim, said she was in London and had been mugged and needed $2,400. The friend sent the money to the hacker via Western Union.  An investigation determined the IP address of the account to which the money was sent was linked to an address in California and two in Nigeria.

No Receipt? No Refund

A CVS customer who became “irate” when he could not get a refund for items without a receipt was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal impersonation and 2nd degree threatening after police were called to the Park St. store.

At 8 p.m. on the evening of Feb. 26, Torrian R. Hodge, 21, of Hope St., Stamford, purchased three items at a cost of $100 from CVS. According to the store manager, Hodge left the store, and returned about 40 minutes later and asked for a refund for the items. He told the manager he had paid cash but did not have a receipt, and the manager asked to see his driver’s license. Hodge said he didn’t have one, and instead presented a CT non-driver identification card with a photograph. The manager told Hodge she did not think the photograph looked like him, at which point, the manager later told police, Hodge became “irate and aggressive.” She picked up the phone to call police and Hodge ran out of the store. When they arrived police found him in a car in the parking lot.

Hodge posted $1,000 bond and has a court date of March 11.
