Fire Log: A Mess of Accidents

Firefighters responded to seven accidents this week.

Firefighters Clean-up Accidents All Week:

The accidents started almost as soon as the rain started falling Friday, Nov. 13. Firefighters responded to a rollover accident involving injuries at 3:25 p.m. near the intersection of Brushy Ridge Road and Rt 123. At 4:01 p.m. bystanders took a person out of a vehicle that had crashed on its side near the intersection of Oenoke Ridge Road and Lambert Road.

The incidents continued into a rainy Saturday with back-to-back accident reports on the Merritt Parkway near exit 38 at 1:14 p.m. and the intersection of Parish Road and Frogtown Road at 1:30 p.m.

After a two-day reprieve, firefighters again got an accident call at 2:42 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, when a car had gone over the guardrail on the Merritt Parkway southbound near exit 37 resulting in a head injury. Wednesday, Nov. 18, firefighters cleaned up fluids following a two-car injury accident on New Norwalk Road near Locust Avenue at 1 p.m. Firefighters were cancelled en route to what turned out to be a minor accident with no injuries at the corner of South Avenue and Gerdes Road Thursday, Nov. 19 at 12:29 p.m.

House Ventilated, Service Call Answered:

Firefighters responded to a service call from a house on Whitney Ave. Friday, Nov. 13, shortly before 2 p.m. They ventilated a house Sunday, Nov. 15, after the carbon monoxide alarm showed levels at 50 ppm, the benchmark level for OSHA guidelines. Another CO alarm proved unfounded, and firefighters were called off a mutual aid request involving a car accident in Wilton Saturday night.

False Alarms—7:

Firefighters responded to half a dozen false alarms between Wednesday, Nov. 11, when the log was last posted, and Friday, Nov. 19, including the carbon monoxide alarm going off in error at New Canaan EMS Headquarters at 182 South Ave on Monday, Nov. 16.

Smoke from cooking set off alarms at two houses over the last nine days. Reports of a chimney fire on Oenoke Ridge Road Nov. 11 and wires down near the intersection of North Wilton Road and Smith Ridge Road Nov. 14 also proved unfounded.
