Firefighters also got calls for assistance from a resident locked out of the house and another wanting help with an air conditioner.

In addition to responding to smoke caused by a lightning strike to a house on White Oak Shade Road Monday night, the Fire Department called in a Haz Mat team on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 9, to deal with a broken mercury barometer. The occupants of 1342 Valley Rd. had traipsed through the house after spilling the hazardous material.

At 8:44 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, firefighters responded to a call from a motorcyclist who had been thrown from his motorcycle after being cut off by a car that continued down Route 123. The caller was experiencing severe pain and a bystander picked up the phone to clarify his location near the intersection with North Wilton Road. EMS was called while firefighters righted the bike and applied a quick drying agent to the road.
