Fire Log: A Slow Week

The Fire Department received no calls Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

EMS Called to Firehouse: 

A firefighter resting during his shift woke up feeling ill Saturday, Jan. 16, and called an ambulance for a ride to the hospital. It turned out to be a false alarm and he returned to work at his next shift.

Water in the Basement, Kerosene in the Air: 

The owner of a house on White Oak Shade Road called the Fire Department for help around 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, after discovering about 10 inches of water in the basement.

A report of a kerosene odor throughout the office building at 50 Locust Ave Tuesday, Jan. 19, turned out to be the result of a furnace malfunction. 

 

Minor Accidents: 

Firefighters helped deal with an accident in the Saxe Middle School parking lot Saturday, Jan. 16, around 8:30 a.m. and a rear-end collision at the intersection of Silvermine Road and Route 123 around 6:20 a.m. the previous evening. 

 

False Alarms—5: 

Firefighters responded to five calls over the past week that were later labeled as false alarms, including one at St. Mark's Church Sunday, Jan. 17, when incense activated the alarm. False alarms also sounded at the YMCA on the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 19, and at the Avalon Office Building Friday, Jan. 22 shortly after 3 p.m. 

Also Tuesday, the smoke detector at a house on Ferris Hill Road was set off by food on the stove.
