Fire Log: Basement Water, Burnt Food
Reports of vehicle and structure fires proved unfounded.
Sump Pump Energized:
Firefighters helped get a generator working and kick the sump pump back on at a house on Braeburn Drive where the power had gone out and three inches of water had cropped up in the basement Tuesday, March 30.
Something Went Boom:
A caller reported a transformer explosion on Smith Ridge Road shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday, March 27. Firefighters on the scene told headquarters it looked instead like a light had fallen from a utility pole. Since there was no hazard, firefighters notified Connecticut Light & Power and headed back to the firehouse.
Burnt Food Activates Alarms:
Firefighters got a call from a house on Norholt Drive Sunday, March 28, and another on Davenport Ridge Tuesday, March 30, where smoke from faulty cooking had set off a detector.
False Alarms Answered—6:
New Canaan Fire Company No. 1 responded to half a dozen calls in the past week that were later labeled false alarms.
Firefighters rushed to the Park Mead condos at 3:47 p.m. Monday, March 29, after a caller said she'd seen what looked like smoke coming out of a window belonging to one of the units. It turned out to be steam from a dryer expelling from a vent near the roof line.
A report of a vehicle fire on Marvin Ridge Road around 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 2, also proved unfounded.
