Fire Log: Injury Accidents and Closed Flues
Firefighters responded to accidents in good weather and bad, and smokey rooms.
Vehicle Spins Out on Merritt Parkway:
Firefighters responded to an accident near Exit 38 on the Merritt Parkway southbound at 11:51 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27. A vehicle had hydroplaned and then struck a guard rail. The driver was injured while getting out of the vehicle. A sand truck, a wrecker, and EMS were called in.
Accident on Trinity Pass:
A car hit a wall on Trinity Pass Road just before 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23. Two ambulances took patients to Norwalk Hospital while firefighters remained on the scene for clean-up.
Town Phone Lines Down When Alarm Sounds:
The New Canaan Fire Department received a call at 6:21 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, directed to the police via Stamford while the town phone lines were down for about three hours. Firefighters responded to the alarm set off by burnt food at a house on South Avenue.
Flues Left Closed Cause Smoke:
An alarm went off at a house on Pocconock Trail shortly just after 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, when the occupant forgot to open the flue before starting a fire. The same thing happened at a house on Brookside Road shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25. Firefighters responded to help clear out the smoke in both cases.
Firefighters Respond Report of Electrical Fire:
At around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, a homeowner on Turtleback Road pulled a cord out of an outlet and it started sparking. Firefighters responded and advised the homeowner to contact an electrician.
False Alarms—6:
New Canaan Fire Company No. 1 received six false alarm calls between Oct. 24 and Oct. 26, including two on Monday from a building with addresses at 4 Forest Street and 82 Main Street; a malfunctioning carbon monoxide alarm went off twice on Saturday at a house on Dunning Road. In addition, firefighters responded to an alarm set off by smoke from cooking at a house one White Oak Shade Road on Friday, Oct. 23.
