Fire Log: 2 CO Alarms, and 11 False Ones

Firefighters also responded to calls for public assistance this week.

 The Fire Department received calls for 11 false alarms, including an odor emanating from a recently sealed driveway near the intersection of New Norwalk Rd. and Hoyt Farm Dr., an unfounded report of smoke on Turtle Back Road, and a carbon monoxide alarm being tested at 26 Ludlowe Rd.

On Monday, Aug. 17 at 11:44 a.m. New Canaan Fire Company No. 1 responded to a report of a downed wire burning near 95 Wardwell Dr. The power was disconnected and the fire was put out by 12:29 p.m.

There were two carbon monoxide alarms in short order on Sunday, Aug. 16. A homeowner at 1134 Weed St. called to report a strong smell at 9:43 a.m., but did not report feeling sick. Firefighters concluded the gas was coming from a malfunctioning heater and ventilated the house. At 10:35 a.m.  a crew met with a homeowner at Prides Crossing at 312 Elm St. where a carbon monoxide alarm had gone off.

Firefighters helped a resident in Unit A of the Essex Ridge Condos at 164 Summer St. stop an overflowing toilet around 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14. another crew responded to a call for public assistance from a house at 301 Oenoke Ridge Rd. at around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13.

At 7:24 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 firefighters responded to what turned out to be an oil burner malfunction that activated the smoke detector at 143 Rocky Brook Rd. The house was ventilated.
