Fire Log: Plenty of Smoke, No Fire

False alarms and burning cars kept fire crews busy last week.

Firefighters responded to the following calls last week:

Burned food set off a basement smoke detector at 174 Jelliff Mill Road.  Fire crews checked out the wood frame structure and found nothing unusual.

Police and fire officials were called with a report about an unusual odor at 249 Hickock Road.  By the time the fire department arrived, the homeowner said the odor was gone.

Firefighters responded to five false alarms, including one set off by contractors working at the Congregational Church, and one at a liquor store on Elm Street.

A car fire at 56 Summit Ridge Road was put out by the time the department arrived.

Fire crews responded to a call indicating a fire in the vicinity of the 500 block of Weed Street.  Fire crews detected a smoky odor but found no evidence of fire.
