Fire Log: Public Assistance Calls; Electrical Fire

Firefighters help out with a broken pipe, closed flue.

Electrical Fire at Car Wash:

Heavy smoke was billowing from the electrical room at the New Canaan Car Wash when firefighters arrived shortly before 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8. Firefighters shut down the piece of equipment that was malfunctioning and ventilated the room. They were finished at the scene within 20 minutes.

Firefighters Lend a Hand: 

Firefighters helped an elderly couple get out of their driveway Thursday morning, Feb. 11, the morning after a big snow storm hit town.

Friday, Feb. 12, firefighters shut off the water when a homeowner called about a leak from the first floor to the basement. The pipe from a toilet had broken. 

Firefighters also helped with a water heater issue Monday, Feb. 8 and responded to another public assistance call Friday, Feb. 5, around 10 p.m. 

They assured the oil company was called Wednesday, Feb. 10, after the occupant of a house on Millport Avenue tried to use the furnace and got a puff of smoke and a strange odor. 

 

Late Night Fire Smokes Up House: 

The occupant of a house on Lantern Ridge Road called firefighters shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday after forgetting to open the flue before lighting a fire in the fireplace. Firefighters ventilated the house. 

 

False Alarms—5:

The Fire Department responded to five calls in the past week that were later labeled as false alarms, including one at the New Canaan Country Club's paddle hut Sunday, Feb. 7
