Fire Log: Traffic Accidents and a New Coat of Paint

The Fire Department also responded to two small fires plus a lot of false alarms

Firefighters responded to a serious motor vehicle accident at the intersection of White Oak Shade Road and Shagbark Drive on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 2:04 p.m. A patient was transported to Norwalk Hospital and a wrecker was sent to the scene. On Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 6:03 p.m. the Fire Department responded to a car accident at Old Stamford Road and Weed Street, which turned out to be minor, and the crew was called back to the station en route.

A caller reported a pole fire involving a transformer near 135 Millport Ave at 3:27 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22. Connecticut Light & Power was notified 13 minutes later, but immediate response was not necessary.

On Thursday, Aug. 20, around 6:40 p.m. a barbecue grill being used under a porch at 33 Carter St caused smoke to arise from the gutter at the house. The Wilton Fire Department was asked to send a tanker but the call was cancelled.

Smoke from cooking set off the fire alarm at 19 Bank St on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 7:13 p.m. Firefighters reset the alarm.

Eight false alarms, including one due to sanding at 797 Valley Rd, were logged this week. And with its new fire doors in place, the firehouse is getting a new coat of paint. Assistant Chief Jack Hennessey says the firefighters are coming around to the bright color scheme.
