After what police say were "inappropriate comments to a group of youths" at Saxe Middle School, New Canaan police charged former Outback Teen Center Program Director Andrew Barer with breach of peace.

Barer, 52, of Easton, was fired from his job in January after the Saxe Middle School principal informed police about the incident. The comments Barer is accused of making haven't been specified in public.

Barer, who had only been hired a few months before, visited the school on Jan. 15 to talk with students about the teen center and the programs, according to police. He spoke with five or six boys there. One student told his parents about Barer's comments, and the parent informed the principal.

New Canaan police investigated the incident, then applied for and received an arrest warrant charging Barer with second-degree breach of peace. Barer was informed when the warrant was approved, and at about 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Barer turned himself in at police headquarters.

He was released on a promise to appear March 12 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

Is it really necessary to post the mugshot for a Class B Misdemeanor?
