Four Arrested for Shoplifting at Rugby

The Elm Street store struck by serious shoplifters for the second time in recent months.

Police have arrested four suspects following a shoplifting incident on Elm Street Friday, Dec. 11.

A Rugby employee reported that three black males had walked out of the store without paying for merchandise. The employee reported seeing the men get into a gray BMW. Another employee followed a fourth suspect who ran west down Pine Street.

The suspects eluded officers until the Police Department received a call about a suspicious vehicle parked near High View Terrace and Old Stamford Road. The car's New York plate number matched the one provided by a Rugby employee and the four occupants fit the description of the suspects. Some of the merchandise reported stolen was found in the vehicle—four articles of clothing worth $765 out of eight missing items totaling $1,265.

Police arrested Ayibadise E. Nanakumo, age 23, Jamile F. Harris, 19, Maximillia Dor, 22, and Shawn Stimphile, 19, all from Brooklyn, NY. The four men were each charged with larceny fourth degree and conspiracy to commit larceny fourth degree. They are being held on $2,500 bond and are being arraigned Monday, Dec. 14, in Norwalk Superior Court.

Rugby was hit by another group of out-of-town shoplifters in September. Two women from Brooklyn and one from Laurelton, NY were arrested and charged in that incident. Shana Mcleod and Kristle Bonfield plead not-guilty and their cases are still pending. Joyce Yalley plead guilty and has been sentenced.
