Garage Fire Under Investigation

Fire damaged a garage on St. John Place Tuesday morning.

New Canaan Fire Company No. 1 responded to a report of a structure fire at 24 St. John Place at 9:38 a.m. Tuesday morning. The New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps was called in case of any injuries and firefighters from the Wilton Fire Department were also called in to assist.

Firefighters were able to put out the blaze in under 20 minutes, limiting the damage to the bay of the garage where the fire originated. The garage is associated with a separate multi-unit residential building which was not harmed. Only a motorcycle and other personal property in the bay at the far end of the garage was destroyed or damaged. The rest of the garage was empty of vehicles. No one was injuried.

As of 1 p.m. Tuesday, investigators from the Fire Marshal's Office were still on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Neighbors in the area may notice discolored water because a fire hydrant was used to supply water to extinguish the blaze.
