Girl, 17, Charged After Sexting Boy, 4 Years Younger

Inappropriate pictures and text sent to a New Canaan 13-year-old boy by a girl, 17, also in New Canaan, resulted in the girl's arrest.

Back in January, the parents of a 13-year-old New Canaan boy showed town police photos and messages that they believed were very inappropriate. Police agreed.

The material, sent by a 17-year-old New Canaan girl, was obtained by police from the girl's cell phone at some point after the Jan. 21 report from the boy's parents.

Police then applied for and received a warrant for the girl's arrest on a charge of risk of injury to a minor, a crime which makes it illegal in Connecticut to take an action that "wilfully or unlawfully causes or permits any child under the age of 16 years to be placed in such a situation that [...] the morals of such child are likely to be impaired, or does any act likely to impair the health or morals of any such child [...]"

The girl's parents were informed of the warrant and on March 4 brought the girl to New Canaan police headquarters, where she was arrested and then released to her parents on a promise to appear Tuesday, March 11 in juvenile court in Stamford.
