New Canaan police are following up on an unusual incident on South Avenue involving a dog walker and a big dog that showed signs of aggression.
At about 10:43 a.m. on Feb. 15, a Great Dane—not yet full grown (the dog pictured is not the same one in question, just an example of what the AKC says normally is a very gentle, friendly breed)—dragged his dog walker toward another leashed dog on the sidewalk in an aggressive manner, knocking down that second dog’s owner, according to Officer Mary Ann Kleinschmitt of the New Canaan Police Department’s animal control unit.
No one was hurt and no laws were broken, though both parties were scared, Kleinschmitt said, and the Great Dane’s owner—out of town at the time—regularly runs his dogs in the area of 184 South Ave.
“We will speak to the owner and it’s just a matter of keeping an eye on it and making sure it doesn’t happen again,” Kleinschmitt said.
