iPhone Theft Leads to Felony Drug Arrest for NCHS Senior

Police say they discovered syringes with heroin residue in the home of a 17-year-old New Canaan male who had stolen an iPhone.

A New Canaan High School senior faces a felony drug charge after an iPhone theft led local police to his home, where officials say they discovered paraphernalia that included syringes with heroin residue.

Police say an iPhone was reported stolen from a hallway at the school some time between 2:45 and 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 23. Video surveillance led police to identify the suspect, officials said. Police obtained an arrest warrant and on Feb. 29 and “executed the search at the 17-year-old’s [South Avenue] home, and while they were there, they discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia, and the phone,” said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, public information officer of the .

In addition to the syringes, Ogrinc said, police found two plastic soda bottles used for smoking marijuana, a digital scale with marijuana residue and plastic baggies typically used for packaging and storing marijuana.

The arrested person’s name was withheld because of his age. The iPhone is valued at $500, Ogrinc said.

The teen was charged with fifth-degree larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of narcotics, a felony offense, police said.

He was released after promising to appear March 7 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
