Juvenile Charged for Narcotics Violation

A 16-year-old New Canaan student was arrested Feb. 28 for illegal sale of marijuana. The charge stems from a November 2010 incident involving another juvenile who was found with marijuana near Waveny Park. The juvenile told police that the 16-year-old sold it to him on school property during school hours. The boy turned himself into police after learning there was a warrant for his arrest. He is scheduled to appear in Stamford Juvenile Court today.

Welding Wire Stolen from Construction Vehicle

A 48-year-old male complainant reported that a 200-foot section of welding wire was stolen from his construction vehicle sometime between Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. and Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. Police said the perpetrator was likely after the wire for its copper core, which is valuable. The value of the wire is $1,100. The larceny is under investigation.

Burglary on Comstock Hill Road

The 64-year-old owner of a Comstock Hill Road residence reported that his house was burglarized sometime between March 2 and March 3. Police said a window displayed signs of force. Upon returning around 11:30 p.m. on March 3, the homeowner said he noticed the house was ransacked, according to police. The stolen items are: a 37-inch Vizio Razor LCD HGTV valued at $800; a 32-inch Samsung LCD HGTV valued at $500; a 17-inch Dell Vostro laptop valued at $600; and a Sony Play Station 3 valued at $250. The burglary is under investigation.

New Canaan Woman Charged with DUI

A New Canaan woman was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on March 4. Pamela M. Chiesi, 46, of Father Peter’s Lane, was stopped on Silvermine Road near New Norwalk Road at approximately 12:33 a.m. after police observed she was speeding. When the officer approached Chiesi’s vehicle, a strong odor of alcohol and signs of intoxication were observed, police said.

Chiesi was charged with speeding, operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive right. She was released on a $260 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on March 17.

Elderly Woman Victim of Phone Scam

An elderly New Canaan woman was scammed out of more than $2,000 by a man posing as her grandson. Police said a Kimberly Place resident got a phone call from a male pretending to be her grandson on March 3. The caller told the woman he had been arrested in Canada and needed financial assistance to get out of jail. The woman wired $2,107 via Western Union to Oshawa, Canada. In later speaking with a relative, the woman learned her grandson was never in Canada, who she assumed was there on spring break.

Almost Home, New Canaan Woman Charged with DWI

A New Canaan woman was arrested on March 5 at approximately 9:47 p.m. after police saw her driving with a broken taillight close to her residence.

Maureen Corcoran, 53, of Park Street, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was cited for a defective tail lamp. Police said the arresting officer observed Corcoran driving without a left tail lamp. After stopping her at Park Street near Cherry Street, the officer observed an odor of alcohol coming from the car, and Corcoran was slurring her speech, police said. Police conducted field sobriety tests and then took Corcoran into custody. She was released on a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on March 15.
