K-9 Search Yields Felony Drug Arrest in New Canaan

A Stamford man faces a felony drug charge after New Canaan police’s K-9 dog, Zira, discovered marijuana in a car during a motor vehicle stop.

According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, public information officer for , Casey J. Dinkins, 21, of Webb Avenue in Stamford, was arrested at 9:50 p.m. on Feb. 25 and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

Police stopped Dinkins for a defective headlight as he drove south on Ponus Ridge.

Police deployed Zira and the German Shepherd dog “indicated that an odor of drugs was coming from the vehicle,” Ogrinc said.

“[Dinkins] had a plastic bag in his shirt pocket and that bag contained several smaller bags of marijuana which had very similar amounts in each, so he was charged with possession with intent to sell,” she said.

Additionally, a passenger in the car, 19-year-old Brianna Paul of Webb Avenue in Stamford, was discovered to have less than .5 ounces of marijuana in her pocketbook as well as a marijuana grinder, Ogrinc said. Paul was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and cited for possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana, police said.

Dinkins was released on $1,500 bond and scheduled to appear March 8 in .

On the heels of __ from parked cars on Hidden Meadow Lane, New Canaan police say they've received yet another larceny complaint.

According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, public information officer for New Canaan police, a Hidden Meadow Lane family reported on Feb. 23 that a handicapped placard had been stolen from a Mercedes-Benz. It isn't clear when the alleged theft took place, though it likely happened between Feb. 9 and 14, Ogrinc said. The complainant told police that the car was unlocked, she said.

The incident follows reports of three similar thefts from motor vehicles in the area, resulting in the loss of cash and a wallet with credit cards.

Police arrested 56-year-old Glenn A. Morrison of Spring Water Lane by warrant at 10:46 p.m. on Feb. 20 and charged him with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

He is accused of getting physical during a verbal confrontation, Ogrinc said.

Morrison was released on $10,000 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 22 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

Amanda Freeman, 26, of New York, NY, was arrested at 11:49 a.m. on Feb. 21 and charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

She is accused of grabbing another woman by the hair, pulling her to the ground and punching her twice in the face, police said.

The victim was transported to Norwalk Hospital after sustaining bruising to her head, Ogrinc said. The incident occurred at Silver Hill Hospital, Ogrnic said.

Freeman was released after promising to appear March 6 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

A 57-year-old town woman reported to police at 8:10 p.m. on Feb. 22 that unfamiliar charges appeared on one of her major credit cards. The charges were made to pay bills to Verizon, Comcast and Metro PCS, the Betsy’s Lane resident reported, according to Ogrinc. It isn’t clear how much money was charged. The incident is under investigation.

Garsivaz Karimnejad, 33, of Naples, FL, was arrested by warrant at 9:23 p.m. on Feb. 23 and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, interfering with an emergency call and disorderly conduct.

He is accused of punching a wall and shoving a complainant during an argument, Ogrinc said.

Karimnejad was released on $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 27 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
