Laptops Stolen, Mailboxes Smashed, Signs Stolen

Read the latest on theft and vandalism in New Canaan.

 

Police are investigating the theft of two laptop computers from a Woodridge Drive home on August 8, said Sgt. Carol Ogrinc.

The 58-year-old New Canaan man arrived home at 9 p.m. on August 8 to find a broken window and his Macbook Pro ($2,300) and Sony Vaio ($2,300) laptops were missing, said Ogrinc.

The last time the man saw the computers was at home on August 7 at 8 a.m., police said.

Police are investigating damaged mailboxes at a Betsys Lane residence, police said. 

The 61-year-old New Canaan woman told police that she noticed on August 9 that her mailbox appeared to have been struck along with the neighbor's mailbox, said Ogrinc.

The mailboxes, which are estimated to be worth around $50 each, were badly dented and broken away from their posts, said Ogrinc. 

Ogrinc stated that, as back-to-school time approaches, the Police Department sees as increase in minor vandalism such as smashed mailboxes.

Police are investigating the theft of four construction signs stolen from West Road near Greenley Road on August 9, said Ogrinc.

The signs belong to FGB Construction and the owner, a 71-year-old Darien man, discovered the signs had gone missing when arrived at the site the morning of August 10, said Ogrinc.

The last time the owner saw the signs, which are estimated to be valued at $400 each ($1,600 total), was at 6 p.m. on August 9, said Ogrinc.
