A 48-year-old Westchester County, NY man faces drug charges after police discovered substances in his car during a motor vehicle stop last Tuesday.
Kenneth J. Poccia, 58, of Garth Road, Scarsdale, was charged with operating under the influence, possession of narcotics and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
At 10:48 a.m. on Jan. 22, police stopped Poccia on Route 123 near Silvermine Road after he ran a red light back on Lakeview Avenue.
An officer caught a scent of marijuana coming from Poccia’s car, according to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc of the New Canaan Police Department.
Poccia denied that there was marijuana in the car but said someone had been smoking it in the car earlier, Ogrinc said. Police searched Poccia and found a metal pillbox in his right front pocket with assorted pills, and then found a joint in a cigarette box inside the car, she said.
Poccia later failed field sobriety tests.
He was released on $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 4 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
