New Canaan police arrested a woman last week who allegedly stole five cans of baby formula from CVS on Park Street back in September, according to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc.
The store’s manager contacted police on Sept. 19 to explain that she had noticed a shopping cart filled with items that was left unattended in an aisle on Sept. 14, according to police. She asked employees who that cart might belong to, but no one was able to tell her. The manager then observed a female wearing a gray Yankees T-shirt and gray sweatpants pushing the cart back and forth, police said.
After reviewing surveillance video, a store employee told police that the same woman had returned to the store later on to return some items, Ogrinc said. Because CVS customers are required to show ID in order to make returns, police were able to identify Kristen McCann, 39 of Murray Street, Milford, as the shoplifter. The department applied for an arrest warrant and on Dec. 10, McCann was picked up by Milford police on another case, according to Ogrinc.
New Canaan police took McCann into custody and charged her with fourth-degree larceny. She posted a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 26.
