Missing Liquor, Narcotics and DUI Arrests

Larcenies at Liquor Store, Residence

May 9, 11:04 p.m: Police responded to a larceny after an employee from Stewart’s Spirits on Elm Street reported that a case of liquor was missing from the store. After noticing the missing inventory, the owner and complainant reviewed surveillance videos, which showed a delivery person had taken a box of Moet & Chandon Imperial champagne, valued at $192, police said. The delivery was made to the store on May 3. The incident is under investigation.

May 9, 2:21 p.m.: A female resident of Ponus Ridge Road reported that a concrete Buddha statue was taken from her yard between May 7 and May 8. The 2-foot-high statue was on a stone wall on the east side of her property, near Greenley Road and Four Winds Lane. The statue is valued at $1,000, according to police.

Narcotics Violation

May 10, 4:18 p.m.: A New Canaan man was arrested for a narcotics violation after a police officer conducting selective enforcement pulled the man over for talking on his cell phone.

Evan P. Reinhardt, 20, of Heather Drive, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The police officer who was initially stationed at Cherry Street and South Avenue stopped Reinhart on Millport Avenue. The police department’s K-9 dog gave indication that there were drugs in the vehicle, police said. A marijuana pipe was found in the driver’s side door pocket. Reinhardt was also in possession of a plastic bag containing various pills identified as Xanax. Reinhardt was accompanied by a 19-year-old passenger who was not charged, police said.

Reinhardt was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 20.

Vehicles Broken Into on Cheese Spring Road

May 12, 11:02 a.m.: Police responded to a larceny at Cheese Spring Road after a resident reported her car was broken into in her driveway. The 57-year-old complainant told police she had parked her car on May 11 at 5:30 p.m. At approximately 8:30 a.m. on May 12, the woman discovered her car had been entered. The glove box was removed and the car’s interior was in disarray, police said. A change purse containing $10 in change was stolen from the center console of the vehicle, police said.

In a potentially related incident, a neighbor discovered his car was also broken into, according to police. The car was parked in his driveway at about 7:30 p.m. on May 11 and he discovered his vehicle had been broken into at 6:45 a.m. on May 12.

Stamford Man Arrested for DUI

May 15, 8:06 a.m.: A Stamford man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police responded to a call of a disabled vehicle on Ponus Ridge Road.

Bogdan Grynchak, 26, of Knapp Street, Stamford, was asleep inside his gray Toyota SUV, which was parked on Ponus Ridge near Frogtown Road on the wrong side of the road. The vehicle was not running, but the ignition was in the “on” position and the vehicle’s hazard lights were blinking. The SUV was parked about two feet out from the curb, police said.

Upon arrival, police found Grynchak asleep in his gray Toyota SUV with the seat reclined. A police officer knocked on the window several times in an effort to awaken the driver. Upon awakening, Grynchak told police his car had run out of gas and he was waiting for a friend. Police also noticed that the car had a flat tire and observed minor damage on the front of the vehicle. Police smelled an odor of alcohol coming from Grynchak’s vehicle and conducted field sobriety tests.

Grynchak was released on a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 26.

Vandals Throw Rocks, Break Window at Vacant House

May 15, 7:06 p.m.: A resident of Old Kings Highway reported vandalism occurred at a vacant home across the street from her house. The 56-year-old female complainant told police a group of pre-teen children were throwing rocks at the house and broke a window. The complainant told police she heard two loud bangs and saw the vandals run away from the house. The home is currently on the market. Police spoke with a group of children in the area shortly after the vandalism occurred, but the group told police they were not involved in the incident.
