New Canaan Animal Control Warns of Off-Leash Ticketing Campaign

New Canaan Animal Control issued a warning Monday to people walking around with their pets off-leash.

According to Officer Mary Ann Kleinschmitt, the number of complaints coming in regarding dogs running around off-leash, particularly in the areas of Waveny Park, Irwin Park and the bird sanctuary, has "increased dramatically".

Kleinschmitt said there would be an increased effort to ticket these offenders and said there would be no warnings issued. The violation carries a $92 fine.

The leash law in New Canaan requires a maximum 25-foot leash in parks and roadways and a maximum 8-foot leash in the business district.
