Fire officials say they're expecting the town to award a contract for a widely anticipated new pumper truck in March—an approximately $500,000 vehicle to be hand-built that Assistant Chief Jack Hennessey says will significantly improve the department's fleet (see video).
The vehicle will bolster the department's six large vehicles—water, ladder and tanker trucks. It's likely that an aging tanker will be retired when the new pumper is ready, Hennessey said.
A renovation is planned for the facility that long has housed the venerable organization, a combination of career and volunteer firefighters.
