Police on Sunday arrested a 50-year-old New Canaan man after a neighbor accused him of touching her breast and buttocks, and kissing her, after he’d insisted on helping her bring in some groceries.
Thomas Campbell, of 190 Park St., faces charges of third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.
According to New Canaan police Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, police received a call from the woman at 4:55 p.m. saying her neighbor “had unwanted sexual contact with her.”
“The victim repeatedly told Campbell she didn’t need help and Campbell insisted on helping,” Ogrinc said in an incident description released to the press.
The woman told police that her husband was not home at the time, according to Ogrinc, though she called to tell him what had happened prior to phoning police.
“The caller feared there would be an altercation between her husband and neighbor,” Ogrinc said.
When police arrived, the woman’s husband already was home, and he and Campbell were fighting, Ogrinc said.
Campbell was held on $25,000 bond and scheduled to appear Oct. 17 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
The woman’s husband was arrested and charged with breach of peace. He’s scheduled to appear Oct. 27.
