New Canaan Man Arrested Again on Child Porn Charge

For the second time in two years, a New Canaan man has been arrested on a charge of possessing child pornography.

New Canaan police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the matter:

Elliott Maynes, 23, of Buttery Road, had been charged by New Canaan police with possession of child pornography for the first time on July 17, 2012. The pornography had been discovered on his computer after he brought it in to P.C. Richards in Norwalk to get it repaired.

In that case, Maynes was convicted on a charge of risk of injury to a minor (not possession of child pornography) and was on probation for five years when adult probation officials conducted a surprise inspection his computer last September. They found adult pornography in it, a violation of the terms of his probation.

They sent the computer to the Connecticut State Police computer crime and electronic evidence unit, which had a long backlog and was only able to search through the computer recently.

When they did, they found not only adult pornography, but child pornography. The case was referred to New Canaan police for additional investigation and arrest.

The arrest took place Tuesday, June 15, after police had applied for and obtained an arrest warrant and told Mayne that he had been charged. He turned himself in at the Police Department and was released at 6:30 p.m. on a $25,000 bond.

He was then charged at 7:52 p.m. that day with violation of probation, then released on a $30,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear in court on July 15 for the probation charge and on Aug. 1 for the child pornography charge.
