New Canaan Man Denied $60,000 Tax Return After Fraudulent Filing

A New Canaan resident reported to police that someone had fraudulently filed for the $60,000 tax return he was reportedly set to receive this year, authorities said this week.

According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, a 57-year-old town resident reported on Thursday, October 24, at 3:10 p.m., that the IRS had rejected his tax return filing on the grounds that someone using the complainant's name and social security number had already filed a return.

Ogrinc said the IRS couldn't confirm the amount the previously, reportedly false filing collected.
