Starting today, New Canaan Police will be stepping up their efforts to make sure those who drive through town are wearing their seatbelts. The department is participating in the national Click It or Ticket campaign, which runs through Dec. 16.
According to a press release sent by Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, police "will be conducting checkpoints at various locations throughout town."
"Safety belts are the most effective safety devices in vehicles today, and only take three seconds to buckle," the release says. "Children are 29 percent safer in the back seat and are required to be in a child restraint system until the age of 7, weighing less then 60 pounds. Children 60 pounds and over, between ages 7 and 15, are required to use a safety belt, regardless of their location in the vehicle."
